Me on American Idol? Ummm no thanks!

Image
Honestly I think the only entertaining part about American Idol is watching the one's who can't sing. It's good to laugh at people making a fool of themselves. True story. It's much more tv-worthy. What's even more funny is hearing the contestants tell the judges that they really believe that they can sing, when even Jesus knows those suckas don't stand a chance. Don't get me wrong; the show's dozen-or-so finalists who do sing... have some talent. But because American Idol is a show more focused on image than talent, America votes "best personality", instead of "most talented". Yes the image is important but it seems like its the only thing you need these days to sky-rocket your music career. That's why I can't be apart of something so surreal and shallow. I get enough judgement from society telling me I'm not good enough let alone some singing (aka image) competition reality show. People tell me many times that I shou...

I Died and My Mom Laughed at My Corpse

Enter my reality I know I've been away. And thanks for all of you out there (who actually read my blogs). If you read my previous blogs from the past, you know that I'm absolutely IN LOVE with music. Well I'm the same way about dreams. Dreams influence people. It tells us unconsciously what our waking minds are afraid to tell us. Sometimes dreams can be prophetic and most of the times they're very symbolic. As the rapper Tupac once said: "Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real". He nailed it with that statement. It's so true. It's hits my heart to the very core, because dreams are an extension--- a vision or message that God is trying to tell us about. My phone rang around 3:20 pm and it scared the sh*t out of me. I woke up almost jumping out of my bed. Some dream I had. It was my brother calling to tell me to come pick him up from school. I'm bracing myself as I speak. It was creepy, almost lucid and of course some symbolic state ...

When the computers die... there's always the ol faithful

Image
I get so frustrated because I have all these ideas in my head and too many of them never reach this piece of paper. I try so hard to make sure this doesn't happen -- that my ideas don't get separated from this important idea that I call paper. But sometimes things, time, business... life gets in the way. The bad thing about technology is there's always some chaos going inside of it it. Computers will always make some mistake, sometime, somewhere. There's going to be some annoying error hitting up the machine every once in a blue moon. But paper has been faithful to me before the day I was born. It's been here for centuries catering world wide to one generation after the next. I've never had problems with it. It's fast easy, convenient and I know AND am for sure that deep in my heart, it's always gonna be there for me. Let's just say (and hope not) my laptop gets some horrific virus. The world shakes and anarchy begins between my frustration a...

Why My Spirit Destroyed Satan...

Image
So I have the weirdest, most epics dreams known to man. (at least I think I do). Not to brag but I love to sleep. I love to dream. I think it's amazing how our brains are still connected to the world in some way--- in some existence even when our bodies our resting.  I believe the human brain is the strongest muscle out there. It connects us to spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional truths. Anything is possible. The brain can absorb an endless amount of information, memories and stories. It's got a mind of it's own. It owns us. So what happens when our dreams are trying to tell us things we need to know? Do we listen? Do we keep a memory/dream book of all our dreams? The earliest dream I remember was when I was around 5 years old and it was in the early to mid 90's. I dreamt that I was walking in my bedroom and all I could remember after that was a demon trying to conjure me to follow him. Its eyes were white, and it had a black mask and cape like Darth Vader...

I Got the Music in Me.

Image
I swear I'm the next statistic for a young adult with A.D.D.. It's sad. Really. My mind is hyper-actively attracted to melodic sounds of the world. I'm siting in class trying to focus, and all of a sudden I hear this amazing tune. I have these amazing short-lived daydreams. I imagine someone beating the drums. I can hear the bass blasting through some big subwoofer, the piano, the strings, all the electronic sounds forming together to accomplish something: music. Is it wrong for me to say that music is a HUGE part of my life? I couldn't live without it. If someone told me that today was the last day of music ever, I would go ahead and jump. It's essential to my mind and spirit. It fills me, and expresses the emotions that I have a hard time speaking about. It's hard to imagine my life, let alone the rest of the world without music. I think we all would still be walking around like dazed barbarians, thinking of words to say at the worst and best times. ...

"If You Can Be Inspired, You Can Achieve"

Right now I'm majoring in Communications, but I'd thought about it and saw that a business degree would go hand in hand with the vision I've dreamed about. In this vision, there's a recreation center, but instead of it being there for athletics and etc, this recreation center would be for "Fine Arts". This art center would be available for children in underprivileged neighborhoods.  Children can go there to learn different aspects of vocal training, music composition, music history, dance, poetry, drawing, painting and sculpting.  The idea came to me when I reminisced being a child and going to a rec center for summer camp. That was the one place where I could make friends, play different activities and I could escape from school and home. Sadly in most cases, Fine Arts funding in schools will decrease before football, basketball or any other popular high school sport that people crave to see. In my opinion, it doesn't matter whe...

Reality isn't everything. "I think, therefore I am".

Jana reached out her hands, pretending she was hugging some human form. It was an imaginary person of course. She called him JECK, which was the name of our four initials and the name of "our room". Yes we gave our room a name! J.E.C.K. stood for "Jana, Ebony, Charlene, and Kerrie". We lived together in one building working at the summer camp.  I could hear a gut-busting laugh coming from all my co-workers including me. We were cleaning the chapel, getting ready for the next group of campers coming in for the TYI week (Territorial Youth Institute). I laughed because I was still surprised that Jana was claiming a space, an imaginary form, her friend. I thought it was lovely. It brought me back to the golden years as a kid and having the same thing....an imaginary friend. My friend's name was Jelly. We became friends when I was 10 and departed ways, when I finally became a teenager. It was sad. Going into the next chapter of my life at age 13, and realiz...
